  • Does a tattoo hurt?
It does, but probably not as much as you think, and you walk away with a great piece of art made just for you. The pain level varies on the individual, the placement on the body, and many other factors. It’s commonly described similar to the pain of a cat scratch.
  • Is a tattoo really permanent?
Tattoos are permanent, but the ink can fade away with time in areas that are often exposed to the sun or if not properly cared for, or on areas where the skin is very thin and meets a lot of friction, like your fingers. If you want to test one out before committing to a permanent tattoo, check out our temporary options.
  • Is it safe?
Any puncture to the skin carries risk of infection. Before getting a tattoo, check that it is performed in a reputable salon under sanitary conditions by a trained and licensed artist who follows proper sterilization procedures and takes other precautions such as wearing gloves, face masks, etc. A good artist should be able explain the procedure and demonstrate what will happen without making you feel like you’re asking too many questions. Fresh Ink artists only use sterile, single-use, disposable needles and equipment so you can rest assured we put a premium on safety.
  • How does it work?
Tattoo needles inject permanent ink into the second layer of skin, the dermis.
  • How much does it cost?
We charge by the hour with a one-hour minimum of $100. Your final cost will depend on the total time required to complete your tattoo. A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the appointment hours blocked will be required at the time of booking. Email us to get an estimate on how long your work will take.
  • Can I get a tattoo over a scar/stretch mark, etc?"
It depends on several factors such as the size, type, and age of the scar. If you wish to minimize or draw attention away from it, one option to consider instead is to incorporate a design around your scar.
  • Who should not get a tattoo?
It is not advisable to get a tattoo if your immune system is compromised in any way; if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding; if you have severe allergies; if you have a communicable disease; if you are taking certain medications such as blood thinners, or if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • How can I view artist portfolios?
Select the artists section and click the artist of your choosing from there you can scroll through their work. Our tattoos are custom, so your piece will be unique to you!
  • How should I prepare for my appointment?
Get some rest, stay hydrated, take a shower, and eat something before your session. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment. And relax! You’re about to have an amazing experience.

  • What should I consider when designing my tattoo?
Aside from the obvious —what image/text you want tattooed and where you want it done— consider: 1) What dimensions you would like 2) Is the size appropriate for the body part? 3) Will you use color? 4) Do you want it visible on an average day? 5) Will this be a standalone design or will it be incorporated with others in the future? 6) Will the design and level of detail work in this medium— i.e. tattoo ink on skin? Our artists will be happy to answer your questions.
  • Can I come check out the boutique?
Yes! We welcome you to come by one of our boutiques and see just how amazing the Fresh Ink experience is!
  • How do I know my artist is reputable?
A reputable artist should be knowledgeable about the tattoo and aftercare process, have a current license visibly displayed, and be able to show you examples of past work. He or she should make you feel comfortable and should get your absolute approval before starting any work. No matter how talented, if an artist is being disrespectful, isn’t paying attention to your questions, or acts like he’s doing you a favor, it’s time to find another one.
  • Do I need a design consultation appointment?
For small and medium-sized tattoos, a 15-minute consultation is included with your appointment free of charge. For larger and more complex tattoos (like sleeves, half sleeves, back pieces, etc.) we do require that you book a separate Design Consultation appointment first. This will allow you and your artist ample time to talk through your ideas and design and answer any questions you may have before coming in for your longer tattoo appointment.
  • What kind of inks do you use?
We use the highest quality inks available on the market. Our suppliers manufacture the inks under sterile conditions and lead the industry in safety and quality standards. • What should I do after my appointment?
Enjoy your beautiful new tattoo! And follow our aftercare instructions.
  • Can I get a new tattoo wet?
You will need to wash the tattoo after taking off your protective bandage, but avoid total submersion (for example, swimming) for at least two weeks or until the skin fully heals.
  • I love my tattoo! when can I book my next one?
You and your artist should be better able to assess your unique situation, however at the minimum, it’s ideal to wait until your current one has fully healed, which should take about two and a half weeks.
